If he hasn't signed anything yet he probably never will but in the rare chance he does make sure the paperwork states how many edits you'll do (aka how many changes you'd allow him to request - none would be optimal) and say when the footage is taken off the computer and thus requests for additional copies after that date will be more expensive. Then months later when you think is safe to remove the footage from the drive they'll want additional copies (so save a copy yourself to duplicate!!) They'll want you to hurry the fuck up with the edit.
